The International Snooker League Fall Tournament was jointly hosted by the RAC and East India Clubs in London from Friday 3rd through Sunday 5th October. With 7 tables and 34 players participating, there was a lot of snooker played over a very successful weekend. The tables in both venues were of the highest quality. Several of the travelling ISL players attended the Ken Doherty dinner and exhibition on the Wednesday evening with all those attending very complimentary re the event. An interclub challenge also took place on Thursday with RAC winning comfortably (10-5) against a combined team representing Stephens Green Club and NYAC.
On Friday morning, the singles handicap event got underway. Later that day, all first round losers, competed in the opening round of the Mike Mitchell single frame consolation event.
Friday afternoon also featured several preliminary and first round doubles matches.
Saturday was action packed, especially for players advancing in their initial singles and doubles matches with the last 16 and quarter finals in both formats taking place. That evening the top 12 players contested the scratch singles event with the top 4 players seeded. Bryan Tan and Joel Patterson made their way through to Sunday’s final. On Sunday morning, John Watson beat Bradley Stanton in the singles handicap semifinal to compete against RAC’s own John Veness in the final, who had earlier beaten NYAC’s Peter Sullivan. After a hard-fought battle, John Watson secured his maiden title in a keenly contested final. Dwight Murray captured the Mike Mitchell trophy overcoming Doug Fox in the single frame final.
In the doubles tournament, two NYAC members Patrick Condren and Jonathan Stearns, teamed up for a thrilling two frame aggregate final against Bradley Stanton and Connor Maguire. The match went down to the final black, which Bradley potted to secure victory for himself and Connor.
Bryan Tan, the tournament favourite, showcased his skill by winning the scratch final against Joel Patterson, successfully defending the title he last claimed when the event was last held in London.
On Saturday, several of the wives and partners enjoyed Afternoon Tea in the Great Gallery. Very positive feedback from that afternoon!
