ISL Spring 2026 Tournament – Calgary

The International Snooker League Spring Tournament was hosted by the Ranchmens Club in Calgary, Alberta from Monday 1st through Saturday 6th June. With 34 players competing across four high quality tables, there was an abundance of excellent snooker played throughout what proved to be a very successful week. Special thanks go to Albert Kenny for his tremendous efforts in ensuring the 3 club tables and the additional table were presented in outstanding condition.
Several participants had planned to play golf on Sunday; however, the weather unfortunately had other ideas. Nevertheless, with most competitors having already arrived, a fun 30 minute Pot Luck tournament was organised. The event attracted 32 players and provided an opportunity for Ranchmen’s Club members who were not participating in the main ISL event to compete against visiting ISL players. Event was won by a Ranchmen’s member Brent Robinson who defeated Steve Pavlick in the final.

The Team event commenced on Tuesday with 4 groups of 3 teams playing each other on a best of 3 frame format. Ranchmen’s B, Canada, Halifax and Vancouver qualifying as Group winners. The final was a closely contested affair with Halifax winning 2-1 on Saturday morning against Ranchmen’s B. Congratulations to Pat Brake, Steve Pavlick and Maurice Doucet.

Wednesday saw the start of both the Singles Handicap and Singles Scratch competitions.
The lowest 16 handicapped players competed in the Scratch with all the others participating in the Handicap event. NYAC’s Doug Laventure emerged victorious in the Singles Handicap after defeating Ranchmen’s Sterling Rempel in the final.

In the Scratch event, Ranchmen’s Rish Kumar captured the title with a win over Halifax’s Pat Brake in the final. Players who lost their opening match in either singles competition were entered into the Mike Mitchell Single Frame Handicap Tournament. Bermuda’s Paul Fedden secured the title and accompanying bragging rights by defeating Rick MacKenzie in the final.

In the Doubles tournament, Ranchmen’s enjoyed further success when the pairing of Rish
Kumar and Sterling Rempel paired together where they defeated Steve Pavlick and Calvin
Parker in the final.

On Wednesday, many of the wives and partners enjoyed a memorable luncheon at the
Ranche restaurant, an event that was widely praised and considered a great success by all those who attended. Following the various finals on the closing Saturday, players and their guests were treated to a spectacular all you can eat lobster dinner. As noted by many throughout the week, the
Ranchmen’s Club staff provided exceptional service and hospitality, contributing greatly to
the overall success and enjoyment of the tournament.
After dinner, the tournament awards were presented with the assistance of the Tournament Director, Rick MacKenzie and ISL Vice-President Jamie Brunn, bringing the week’s festivities to an enjoyable conclusion.
Congratulations to all those involved from the Ranchmen’s Club (members and staff alike)
for hosting such a successful event despite the weather! Special thanks to Cliff Johnson, John Carswell, Dwight Murray and Rick MacKenzie and the many others whose efforts be-
hind the scenes. Helped ensure the tournament ran so smoothly. The International Snooker League extends its sincere appreciation to all those involved and very much looks forward to returning to Calgary in the years ahead!
